There seems to be a national day for everything — pickles, handwriting and even barbershop quartets — and most fly under the radar. But one day we should all celebrate is National Good Neighbor Day. Since the 1970s, National Good Neighbor Day has demonstrated that good neighbors help achieve human understanding, building strong, supportive communities of people who care about each other and know how to have a good time. National Good Neighbor Day is September 28, and we have five ways you can celebrate at Aliento.
Have you met your neighbors?
First and foremost, how well do you know your neighbors? Have you met all of them yet? Well, now’s the time! It’s never too late to introduce yourself to the new family on the block or the couple around the corner.
Welcoming neighbors into your community.
We all want to feel included and part of a group that will look out for each other. Well, your neighbors are those people. They’re the ones who will carpool with you on school days, pick up your mail when you’re out of town and, if you’re lucky, maybe even watch your pets on short notice. Make them feel at home and part of the community from the start by having them over to your house, inviting them to parties and setting up a playdate for the younger kids.
The neighbors make the community.
The adage may go, “good fences make good neighbors,” but at Aliento, residents believe differently. The entire Aliento lifestyle revolves around people and their time together. From the paseo trail and parks to the pools and splash pad, Aliento is a playground ready for exploring and experiencing more of what life has to offer. The shared spaces and resort-style amenities were designed to bring people together, so that you meet your neighbors, who will more than likely turn into close friends, and become a real community.
Let’s get together.
At the heart of the community is Aliento’s hub for entertainment, fitness and relaxation, The Terrace. The Terrace is the perfect place to meet up with neighbors, both new and well-known, and hang out, get to know one another and most importantly, have fun. Kick off the celebration by hosting a barbecue at the outdoor grills in honor of all your neighbors.
Start regular rendezvous.
Reach out to your neighbors and welcome them into your home with an end-of-summer soirée in your backyard. Or invite them to accompany you to The Terrace, where you can start a Sunday s’mores night at the fire pits, hold a monthly bocce tournament and have a special, all-ages charades night with parents versus kids.
There are lots of ways to show your neighbors some love on September 28 — or any day of the year — at Aliento. So, join your community on this important day of kindness and sharing, and experience something new together. You never know what new friends you’ll find and what adventures you’ll have along the way.
