Tips For Practicing Yoga Outdoors at Aliento

Posted on 23 May, 2018

Sweeping panoramas. Miles of rolling hills and ridgeline trails. Native plants and landscaping. From the scenic setting to the amenities at The Terrace and surrounding trail system, Aliento is a natural community that encourages healthy living. Living at Aliento in Santa Clarita, you have plenty of serene outdoor spaces to practice yoga in.

The Terrace.
Aliento means breath, and what better way to catch your breath than with a day at The Terrace!

Along with indoor yoga sessions at The Terrace’s fitness center and water aerobics in the resort-style pool, stretch out on the outdoor exercise deck. Once you’re ready to cool down, you can soak in the jacuzzi and relax by the poolside cabana. Or if your kids are ready to play, wade with them in the beach-entry children’s pool. You can also pose on The Terrace’s lawn area overlooking the valley.

Neighborhood parks.
Before a morning yoga session, walk the ridgeline trails and warm up while watching the sunrise. Take the sidewalks and trails throughout the community to any of Aliento’s four parks: Arboleda Park, Bothwell Park, Dogwood Park and Ventada Park.

Take advantage of the following yogi tips for practicing throughout the community.

Try alternatives to yoga mats.
Traditional yoga mats, particularly thicker ones, bunch and fold up when laid outside. On grassy surfaces, test alternate materials like beach towels or Mexican yoga blankets. In addition to being less likely to slip, you can always throw either of those materials in the washer.

Outdoor yoga essentials.
Bring sunscreen, water, a yoga blanket and a sweatshirt with you to practice yoga. Yes, a sweatshirt. Here’s why you can place the sweatshirt over your eyes during the end resting phase of your yoga session.

Observe the still.
Exercising mindfulness is a big part of yoga. Focus on the natural sounds in the air. Whether it’s birds chirping or the wind blowing, listen to your surroundings as you become aware of your natural breathing patterns.
